Beginning My Journey with Grandfather Hapé

My journey with Grandfather Hapé began in September 2024. Before that, I did not know it existed or what it was. During my reiki session, my Reiki teacher, Jordenelle, had a vision of me with Hapé. Following this, I ordered my starter kit from Dreamy Earth. The blends I ordered were Samaúma and Tsunu, along with a sample of Mulatiero. I found Dreamy Earth’s TikTok and watched her video tutorial on consecrating Hapé. I thought I knew what I was doing, but I was wrong! It wasn’t until December 3, 2024, during my virtual 1:1 sit with Shanti (Dreamy Earth), that I learned how to consecrate Grandfather Hapé correctly.

Hapé is a sacred plant medicine from South America, most commonly found in the Amazon. It consists of pure Tobacco (Mapacho – Nicotiana Rustica) and tree bark ash. Unlike the colonized version of tobacco filled with additives, Mapacho is a master plant teacher—a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. Various Hapé blends are crafted from different trees and plants, each carrying its own unique essence and energy.

First Experiences with Grandfather Hapé (When I Was Inhaling Incorrectly)

The first blend I tried was Tsunu. I felt it clearing my energy, even though I mistakenly kept inhaling through my nose after the first inhale. It kept going up my nose!

The second blend was Samaúma. I lit an incense and accidentally served myself too much of the blend. Not wanting to be disrespectful by putting it back in the jar, I inhaled it all. However, the combination of the incense and the large serving was overwhelming—I felt woozy and on the verge of throwing up. I sat still for a minute, steadied myself, and went to bed, though the room kept spinning. I thought, “Ufff, Samaúma does not play!” Since then, I no longer burn incense when sitting with this medicine. After this experience, I felt called to a virtual 1:1 Hapé sit, knowing it was essential for my journey with this medicine.

My Sit-in with Shanti (Dreamy Earth)

My session was transformative and deepened my respect for these sacred medicines. Shanti created a calm, safe, and warm space throughout our session. It was very easy to connect with her, and one can feel her deep relationship with our plant allies and the love she shares for Grandfather Tobacco. I learned how to inhale correctly, and during the ceremony, I felt incredibly calm. I truly experienced the essence of Samaúma’s Grandmother Energy. I was filled with deep gratitude for the wisdom I received and for my higher self guiding me on this journey. This 1:1 session was essential in helping me build my practice and form a meaningful connection with the spirit of Grandfather Hapé.

Experiences with Grandfather Hapé and the Different Blends After My 1:1

I’ve learned that sitting with Grandfather Hapé is not an act of doing—it is consecrating and communing with his spirit and the spirits of the blends I am working with. I am learning not to expect or focus on receiving messages but to surrender to the plant medicines and to life itself. Being present and receptive allows the medicine to work where it needs to during the ceremony. Grandfather Tobacco holds space for me.

Samaúma

This has become one of my favorite blends. I had the most heart-opening, grateful, and gentle experience with Grandmother Samaúma. I can feel her wisdom. During my 1:1, I heard her say, “This is how I truly feel,” acknowledging the contrast between this moment and my first woozy experience. The second time I connected with her, after over a month apart, I felt her say, “Welcome back, my child.” I intentionally chose this blend to connect with my divine ancestors, and I can see why my higher self led me to her. When I commune with Grandmother, it feels as if I am in her majestic presence, sensing her beauty, roots, and wisdom. My heart overflows with gratitude and love for her, Grandfather Tobacco, and my divine ancestors.

Tsunu

I tend to reach for this blend when I need to clear dense energies from work or heavy emotions. I feel a weight lift from my body, leaving me feeling more present and grounded.

Mulatiero

As soon as I read, “Align with the Divine,” I felt called to try this blend. The first couple of times I consecrated it with my divine spirit team, I was still inhaling incorrectly, but I felt its potency. More recently, I reconnected with its spirit and experienced a beautiful grounding sensation—my roots beneath my feet tingled, feeling strong and healthy.

Rose

As a daughter of Lilith, I intuitively felt called to this blend to connect and commune with Mother Lilith. The first time I consecrated Rose, she came in spicy—medicine always meets you where you are. At that time, Mother Lilith was guiding me to integrate lessons I had been resisting. The second time, I felt Rose’s beautiful, gentle grounding energy.

Jasmine

I have communed with this blend once so far, alongside my higher self, and it provided a gentle grounding right before a shadow work session. I’m excited to continue working with the spirits of Cumaru, Rose, and Jasmine!

My journey with Grandfather Hapé continues to unfold, teaching me about surrender, presence, and deep reverence for these sacred medicines. I am grateful for the guidance of my higher self and the plant spirits that hold space for my transformation.
