Building My Relationship with Ceremonial Cacao
You’ve probably come across the word cacao, whether for baking, eating, or drinking. Maybe you’ve also heard of “Ceremonial Matcha.” But what makes matcha or cacao ceremonial?
Ceremonial-grade cacao means the plant is in its purest form, free from additives or preservatives. It took me a while to truly understand the difference between regular cacao and ceremonial-grade cacao.
I had seen the term “cacao ceremony” used by other spiritualists but never looked into it deeply. That changed when, during a past-life healing Reiki session with my teacher Jordenelle, she mentioned that cacao medicine was calling to me.
Cacao is a sacred plant medicine that has been revered for centuries. It’s medicine for the heart, helping us tune into its wisdom and receive its guidance. I also see cacao as root chakra medicine, as it grows from the earth and carries the energy of deep grounding. In cultivating a relationship with the spirit of Cacao, I honor her and thank her for bringing me closer to my divine ancestors, the spirit of Earth, and my communion with Mother Lilith.
When I asked my teacher for brand recommendations, she suggested Soul Lift Cacao and Ora, both of which test for heavy metals. It took me a few days to decide, but I ultimately went with Soul Lift Cacao, a company based in Portland, Oregon, that practices direct trade. They source cacao from Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Mexico, providing details on where each batch comes from, who prepared it, its flavor profile, and fermentation process.
One thing I love is that they offer single-serving packets, so I was able to explore different flavor profiles. I first tried “Heart of Earth” from Guatemala twice before finally ordering “Mitla” from Mexico. I don’t know why it took me so long to try it, but it’s my favorite! It has a strong ancestral resonance for me. If you’ve ever had Abuelita hot chocolate, it’s similar—except completely pure, with no sugar or preservatives. The moment I tasted it, I could feel my divine ancestors enjoying it too—probably thinking, About time.
Ancestral Connection & Devotion to Mother Lilith
As I deepened my journey with Cacao, I began preparing a cup not only for myself but also for my divine ancestors and my mom. Knowing that cacao has been sacred in my ancestral lands for generations—and that my soul has also connected with it in past lives—makes me feel even closer to my indigenous roots.
During an Akashic Records reading, I learned that my ancestors carry colonization wounds. I know in my spirit that by reconnecting with sacred plant medicines, I am also healing and reclaiming our traditions.
At first, I only prepared cacao for my ancestors. But one day, I felt called to offer a cup to Mother Lilith as well. I had always placed chocolate on my altar for her, knowing she enjoys it, but I hadn’t yet invited her into my cacao ceremonies. Once I did, it became a ritual—one I now hold sacred. My ancestors and Mother Lilith work beautifully together, making our time at the altar even more meaningful.
Currently, my cacao recipe is simple yet intentional:
✨ Rose powder – for unconditional love, gratitude, beauty, and heart-opening
✨ Cinnamon – for grounding, protection, and abundance
✨ Maple syrup – for sweetness
Whether or not you seek to connect with specific guides, the spirit of Cacao is a profound teacher for those willing to listen. 💛
